2012 Christmas card pt 3

This is the final post about Christmas cards this year! I am really happy with what I came up with this year and I am excited to hand them out!

For this card I used the snowman cut from Create a Critter 2 along with his scarf and mittens. I used red glitter glue on the scarf and added a little holly sticker to his hat. Again the ink didn't show up too well on the paper I used, this time I kept going anyways and had to cover it up or start my base over again. So I used George and Basic Shapes for the red and green shapes used to cover up the ink on the green paper and to add my sentiment. I found the "bakers twine" at Michael's, it's actually knitting yarn but worked just the same!

What I used:
  • Autumn Leaves 4x5.5 in white card and envelope
  • various card-stock colors
  • DCWV holiday stack (green paper)
  • Ditto red glitter glue
  • Scrappy Moms A Holiday to Remember "have a holly jolly holiday!"
  • Red Heart cotton yarn
  • Clear gem embellishments
  • Jolee's Boutique Dimensional Stickers Christmas Holly
  • Cricut Create a Critter 2 (snowman)
  • Cricut George and Basic Shapes (red and green shapes)

2012 Christmas card pt 2

As I mentioned in my last post I would be using 3 different character cuts for my cards this year. I am really happy with the first card and the second is no different.

I used the penguin cut from Create a Critter 2 along with her scarf. I used red glitter glue on her scarf to make it stand out a little.

What I used:
  • Autumn Leaves 4x5.5 in white card and envelope
  • various card-stock colors
  • DCWV holiday stack ( blue snowflake paper)
  • Ditto red glitter glue
  • Inkadinkado Clear Stamps "Warm Holiday Wishes" set (sentiment)
  • Jolee's Boutique Snowflakes
  • Celebrate It 360 White Ribbon
  • Clear gem embellishments
  • Cricut Create a Critter 2 (penguin)

2012 Christmas card pt 1

When I sat down to figure out what cuts i was going to use for this year's Christmas cards I could not decide. I think that part of the problem is that I have too many cuts to choose from. Although the angel card I made a few weeks ago turned out great I knew it would take way too long to make all the cards I needed. I narrowed it down to 3 different cuts. I just got one of the latest cricut cartridges.... Create a Critter 2, I will be using 2 of the character cuts from that cartridge and one from the original Create a Critter.

The first card I have completed is using the reindeer and lights cuts from CAC, I just didn't like the way he looked on CAC2. I also used George and Basic Shapes to cut out the red square as the ink does not show up very well on the green paper. I used red glitter glue on the reindeer's nose and the light bulbs and a white gel pen to add the dots for that little extra that was missing.

What I used:
  • Autumn Leaves 4x5.5 in white card and envelope
  • various card-stock colors
  • DCWV holiday stack (green dotted paper)
  • Ditto red glitter glue
  • Gelly Roll Gel pen in white
  • Scrappy Moms A Holiday to Remember "have a holly jolly holiday!"
  • Cricut Create a Critter (reindeer)
  • Cricut George and Basic Shapes (red square)

DIY Christmas gift tags

I was at Michael's picking up some paper supplies and as usual spent some time browsing around, I came across this gift tag punch. I saw this idea on pinterest to DIY gift tags using pictures but thought I would use my old Christmas cards instead. Well when I got home I had to try it out right away and used some scrap crafting paper I had laying around. I will eventually get around to using the punch on my old cards but I love how these turned out!

What I used:
  • Recollections Jumbo Tag Punch
  • 6mm Round Punch
  • Inkadinkado Clear Stamps "Christmas Characters" set (penguin, Santa and Frosty)
  • Inkadinkado Clear Stamps "Snowflakes A-Plenty" set (snowflakes)

golden anniversary invitations

This year, my grandparents on both sides of my family are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversaries. My dad's parents celebrated this past summer as part of a double 50th anniversary/family reunion at the family cottage, it was a huge event with lots of family around. My mom's family on the other hand is much smaller, my mom had the bright idea to make the invitations ourselves (me). Although she did find the inspiration and paid for all the material I can honestly say she didn't do much of the work herself! This is what we came up with, the inside is layered and printed with all the details (that's the part I left for her to do!).

What we (I) used:
  • gold, cream and black paper-stock
  • lace inspired ribbon
  • Martha Stuart Edge Punch

my first tri-fold

This one was a 2-in-1 card as I was able to combine both a birthday and Mother's day card! This was my first SUCCESSFUL try at a tri-fold card, instructions I used can be found here. I should say that I did not follow the measurements exactly as I wanted a bigger card but you get the idea.

What I used:

easel cards

Pinterest - aside from being full interesting finds, has not only brought me inspiration for card designs but recently I have been finding all kinds of different card styles. I recently tried my hand at what is called an easel card.

As it turns out, easel cards are quite easy to make. I have seen this style used for shape cards, off-set and front-facing (like what I have done below). I forgot to take step-by-step pictures but if you look around you can find instructions. Maybe next time I will do a tutorial.

What I used:
  • mixed card-stock
  • Clear gem embellishments (center of flowers behind butterfly)
  • Cricut Elegant Edges cartridge (raised ledge to hold card open)
  • Cricut Picturesque cartridge (butterfly)
  • Cricut Create-a-Critter cartridge (cupcake and cherry)

goodbye to a friend

This past fall hubby made friends with the GTI guy at work. An Australian man who often introduces himself as "Dingo". It didn't take long for Dingo and hubby to hit it off. Bonding over beer, video games and electronics. There has definitely been a bro-mance brewing! Well soon we will be saying goodbye to this new friend of ours as he is moving back to Australia. I made him this card on behalf of hubby, cheesy I know but it works!

What I used:
  • Autumn Leaves 4x5.5 in white card and envelope

Looking at the picture makes me think i need to do something with the word "TRIP". I'll have to figure something out!

love is in the air

It's Valentine's Day!

Hubby and I agreed we would keep things low key and just exchange cards and have a quiet dinner at home. Of course he couldn't just do that and had a BEAUTIFUL bouquet delivered to my desk at work :) leaving me to look like the cheap one with nothing for him but a homemade card.

So here is my simple but sweet, valentine for my hubby. I wrote in the pink square with a thin-tip sharpie to finish it off.

What I used:
  • red and pink card stock
  • red raffia
  • some 3D embellishment stickers
  • Martha Stewart "Heartbeat Pattern" all over punch

learning the ropes

Well, I did a blog/journal thing in high school but I just never got into it. Since I have been looking so many great blogs recently I have been inspired to give it another go.

I am hoping to share my craft creations. I scrapbook and have recently tried my hand at card making. I gotta say I'm really enjoying it addicted and am looking forward to trying out new things with my Cricut!

Now I just need to figure out how to post and share pictures of my own creations.
